For his first solo show at the Gallery Emmanuel Perrotin in 1999, Cattelan worked with a cartoonist to design a costume which would communicate the true nature of his gallerist, a notorious womanizer. Perrotin was obliged to wear the costume for the entire length of the exhibition. Entering the Gallery, the viewer was thus welcomed not by a conventional gallerist but by his essential self.

Pour son exposition à la galerie Emmanuel Perrotin en 1999, Cattelan travailla avec un dessinateur afin de créer un costume qui pourrait révéler la véritable nature de son galeriste, un célèbre coureur de jupons. Cette année-là, Maurizio m'obligea à porter un costume embarrassant durant les six semaines de l'exposition. Il s'agit en fait de la performance de Maurizio dont on a le plus parlé dans la presse.
